Jordan Ayew Poised to Lead Black Stars as Captain in Pivotal AFCON Qualifiers Against Angola and Niger

Jordan Ayew is set to take up the captain’s armband for Ghana’s Black Stars in their crucial final two games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger. After a turbulent campaign, Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo has reportedly settled on Ayew to guide the team in these must-win fixtures.

This decision follows mixed results earlier in the qualifiers when Mohammed Kudus was appointed captain in the absence of Thomas Partey. Kudus led the team against Sudan but Ghana could only secure a 1-1 draw at home before suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss in the away leg held in Libya. Addo faced scrutiny for this choice, with some questioning why Ayew, a seasoned leader, wasn’t given the responsibility at the time.

According to sources, Addo and Ayew have since reconciled any lingering issues, paving the way for Ayew to captain the side in these last two qualifying games. Ghana, currently sitting third in Group F with just two points from four matches, faces an uphill battle to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament, to be held in Morocco. They will play Angola on November 15 in Luanda, followed by a home fixture against Niger Republic on November 18 at Accra Sports Stadium.

With Ghana still chasing its first win of the qualifiers, all eyes will be on Jordan Ayew and his ability to rally the Black Stars to victory. Ghana needs to overcome both Angola and Niger to keep their AFCON hopes alive.
