Asante Kotoko has named Kwasi Appiah as their new Head of Sporting Affairs, marking a significant addition to the club’s leadership. The appointment comes after Appiah’s impressive stint with Sudan’s national team, where he led them to a historic qualification for the 2025 AFCON, beating Ghana in the process. This remarkable achievement was accomplished despite Sudan’s ongoing civil war, forcing the team to play all their home games outside the country.
The 1982 AFCON winner is also set to resume his duties as a member of the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council. Appiah’s suspension, imposed during the final international window of 2024 following Ghana’s clash with Sudan, has officially ended, allowing him to take on dual roles in Ghanaian football.
Asante Kotoko, fresh from breaking a four-game winless streak with a victory over Aduana Stars, now shifts focus to their upcoming fixtures. They will face Future Stars in the MTN FA Cup Round of 64 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, December 1, at 15:00 GMT. The club will then host arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in a highly anticipated Matchday 13 clash of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Appiah’s appointment adds experience and strategic leadership to Asante Kotoko as they aim to improve their domestic and continental performances.
