Leicester City has found an unlikely hero in Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew, whose knack for delivering in the final moments of games has earned the team crucial points and much-needed breathing room in the Premier League standings.
Ayew’s latest dramatic goal came in the 94th minute against Ipswich, clinching a 1-1 draw on Saturday and adding another point to Leicester’s tally. Just two weeks prior, Ayew made waves with an even later strike in the 98th minute, snatching a thrilling victory from Southampton and proving himself a vital asset in clutch situations.
These late-game goals have transformed Leicester’s early-season outlook. Instead of languishing near the relegation zone with seven points, the Foxes now hold 10 points, putting them five points clear and offering a more promising future.
Yet, Ayew isn’t satisfied with his current role as Leicester’s “super-sub.” The 33-year-old, who signed a two-year deal worth £5 million after moving from Crystal Palace, is eager to start. Manager Steve Cooper is well aware of Ayew’s desire but noted that the forward’s late-game introductions have been part of Leicester’s game plan, especially against teams with defensive setups like Ipswich.
“It’s tough not starting him,” Cooper admitted, acknowledging that Ayew’s impact off the bench has been invaluable in helping Leicester weather their early-season challenges.
