Ademola Lookman couldn’t contain his excitement after Atalanta secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart in a UEFA Champions League clash at the MHPArena on Wednesday night. The Nigeria international acknowledged the intensity of the home crowd, which added to the challenge, yet praised his team’s composure in seizing all three points.
The deadlock was broken shortly after halftime in the 51st minute when Lookman, in excellent form this season, tapped in a precise pass from Charles De Ketelaere. Nicolò Zaniolo doubled the lead in the 88th minute, expertly finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box, securing the win.
Lookman, who previously played at MHPArena during his time with RB Leipzig, has been unstoppable this season, bringing his goal involvements to 13 (8 goals, 5 assists) in just 13 appearances. The victory keeps Atalanta among the six unbeaten teams in the Champions League, and with 8 points from four games, they continue to make their mark.
Reflecting on the game, Lookman told UEFA, “We had a solid first half and created a lot of dangerous moments. We knew if we kept pushing, the chances would come. We’re thrilled with the three points and look forward to keeping up the momentum.”
Lookman added: “Playing here is tough—the crowd was intense, and we all felt it. It was a fantastic atmosphere to play in, and we’re proud to have delivered this performance.”
The forward has also been named in Nigeria’s squad for their upcoming internationals in November against Benin and Rwanda. He will report for national duty after Atalanta’s Serie A clash with Udinese on Sunday, November 7.
