Ghanaian football legend Malik Jabir has called for Otto Addo’s resignation following the Black Stars’ shocking failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana’s performance in the qualifiers was dismal, with the team failing to win a single game in six matches. They finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points, marking the first time in two decades that the Black Stars will miss the continental tournament, set to take place in Morocco next year.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Angel FM, Jabir, a former Asante Kotoko coach, stated that Otto Addo should step down to preserve his reputation.

“Coach Otto Addo should tender in his resignation letter just to save his image because he is not the right man for the job,” Jabir said.

The fallout from Ghana’s poor campaign has put significant pressure on Addo and the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The GFA Executive Council is set to meet on Wednesday, November 27, to deliberate on Addo’s future.

In the meantime, the Black Stars must shift focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which resume in March 2025 with crucial games against Chad and Madagascar.
