Fulham manager Marco Silva recently opened up about his choice to keep Alex Iwobi in Fulham’s starting lineup over the in-form Harry Wilson, despite the latter’s goal-scoring spree. In their recent 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, both players played pivotal roles, with Iwobi assisting Wilson’s second-half goal—a result that moved Fulham into eighth place in the Premier League.
Wilson has been on fire lately, scoring five goals in his last six matches for club and country, including a goal just seconds after coming on against Crystal Palace. However, Silva emphasized that Iwobi’s consistency and all-around game have been crucial to Fulham’s season. Silva praised Iwobi as “one of the best players” this season and credited his leadership and work ethic, which were apparent from pre-season onward.
Discussing the competition for spots, Silva noted, “Alex is being one of the best players so far this season, if not the best.” Silva acknowledged Wilson’s determination to start but reiterated that the decision was about overall team balance and form, describing the healthy competition among players as “a good headache.”
Silva also commended Wilson’s sharpness and his on-field chemistry with Iwobi, expressing satisfaction with their partnership, which has led to multiple scoring opportunities. Fulham, eager to build on their recent success, will next face Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break.
