Nathaniel Adjei Called Up to Black Stars for Crucial AFCON 2025 Qualifiers

FC Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei has received a call-up to Ghana’s national squad for their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger. The 22-year-old has shown consistent form since his transfer from Hammarby to Lorient in January, with the French club investing €7.5 million in the talented center-back—a decision that has proven to be a wise one.

Adjei, whose impressive displays have won over fans and coaches alike, was previously invited to join the Black Stars for friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda in March. However, he had to withdraw from those matches due to an ankle injury. Now fully recovered, Adjei is ready to make an impact in Ghana’s senior squad under the guidance of head coach Otto Addo.

Ghana faces an uphill task in the qualifiers, sitting third in their group with just two points after four games. With a record of two losses and two draws, the Black Stars are at risk of missing out on AFCON for the first time in two decades. They need victories in their upcoming matches and must rely on Sudan to drop points in order to advance to the tournament in Morocco.

Ghana will travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15 before hosting Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18. As Adjei prepares to contribute to this crucial campaign, fans and pundits alike hope his defensive prowess will help steer Ghana towards an AFCON berth.
