Orlando Pirates are not only competing with Mamelodi Sundowns for the Betway Premiership title but are now aiming to secure the signature of Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams. The 23-year-old, currently shining at Stellenbosch FC, has caught the attention of both giants in South African football.
Mamelodi Sundowns initially seemed poised to acquire Adams, having reportedly offered around R20 million for the talented midfielder in the previous transfer window. However, recent developments indicate that Pirates may have taken the lead. According to sources, the Buccaneers have proposed a deal involving a cash offer along with midfielder Goodman Mosele to tempt Stellenbosch into agreeing to the transfer in January.
A significant factor in this race is Pirates’ recent acquisition, former Stellenbosch captain Deano van Rooyen, who is believed to be persuading Adams to join him at the Buccaneers. The close friendship between the two players may tip the balance in Pirates’ favor, although Sundowns could still mount a renewed bid for Adams if they’re willing to meet Stellenbosch’s demands.
Both clubs are determined to strengthen their squads as they push for the league title, setting the stage for an intense January transfer window. With Pirates currently topping the league with 21 points, three points ahead of Sundowns, the signing of Adams could provide the edge they need to maintain their lead and secure the Betway Premiership title.
