Otto Addo Names Jordan Ayew as New Black Stars Captain Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers

Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, recently announced Jordan Ayew as the new captain of the Black Stars, replacing Mohammed Kudus. The decision comes as Ghana gears up for crucial AFCON 2025 qualifiers, with Addo hoping the change in leadership will bring renewed focus and energy to the team.

Under Kudus’ captaincy, the Black Stars experienced mixed results, including a goalless draw against the Central African Republic and a 2-0 loss to Sudan. Addo explained his reasoning for the shift, stating, “Jordan will take over from now, and he will lead and guide the team. I’ve spoken with Kudus, and he understands that this is about growth. He’ll serve as the second captain, alongside Alexander Djiku.”

Addo expressed confidence in Ayew’s experience and leadership abilities to help guide Ghana through the upcoming qualifiers. With two points from four games, the Black Stars currently sit third in Group F, making their next matches against Angola in Luanda on November 15 and Niger in Accra three days later vital to their AFCON qualification hopes.
