Otto Addo Retained as Black Stars Coach Amid Calls for Dismissal

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to retain Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars despite mounting criticism following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision was reached during an Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, November 27, to review Addo’s performance and assess his technical report on the qualifiers.

Ghana’s failure to secure a spot in the upcoming AFCON tournament marked a historic low, with the team finishing last in their group without a single win. While many in the football community called for Addo’s dismissal, citing inconsistent performances, the GFA opted to back the coach, expressing confidence in his long-term vision for the team.

This decision places Addo at the center of efforts to rebuild the Black Stars and chart a new path forward. His immediate task is to lead the team through the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, offering him a chance at redemption and an opportunity to restore the faith of disillusioned fans.

The GFA’s vote of confidence signals their belief in Addo’s ability to address the shortcomings of the past and guide the Black Stars to success on the global stage. As expectations rise, all eyes will be on Addo to deliver results and prove his critics wrong.
