Ghana’s hopes of competing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) were dashed after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the tournament in Morocco. This setback has sparked widespread criticism and calls for immediate action to address the issues plaguing the team.
Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has highlighted the urgent need for a thorough evaluation of the team’s performance in the qualifiers. Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Sannie Daara stressed that identifying the root causes of the failure is essential for shaping the future of Ghanaian football.
“We need to look at what went wrong during the qualifiers. Was it the coaching? The management? The players? Only after a thorough analysis can we determine the best course of action,” he stated.
The aftermath of the disappointing campaign has already led to some significant decisions. The GFA has dissolved the Black Stars’ management committee and announced plans to meet with head coach Otto Addo on November 27. During this meeting, the coach will present his report on the qualifiers, and discussions on his future with the team will take place.
The Black Stars’ poor preparation, lack of execution, and questionable leadership have come under scrutiny, with many questioning whether the current setup is capable of restoring Ghana’s footballing glory. While the country reflects on this setback, Sannie Daara’s call for a comprehensive overhaul resonates as a necessary step to rebuild the team’s strength and competitiveness on the continental stage.
