Super Falcons Gear Up for France Friendly Without Key Stars Ajibade, Oshoala

Angers, France – The Super Falcons of Nigeria are set to face Les Bleues in an international friendly on Saturday, November 30, at the Stade Raymond Kopa, marking their first meeting in five years. This highly anticipated clash will test Nigeria’s mettle as they aim to overturn a dismal record against the French women’s national team.

The last encounter between the two sides ended in heartbreak for the Falcons, as a late penalty from Wéndéléine Renard sealed a 1-0 victory for France during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In their three previous meetings, Nigeria has struggled to find the back of the net, conceding 10 goals and scoring none.

Despite missing key players such as captain Rasheedat Ajibade and star forward Asisat Oshoala, interim head coach Justine Madugu has called up a 20-player squad brimming with talent and experience.

Leading the team is goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie of Paris FC and Montpellier striker Ifeoma Onumonu. Spain-based Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide, as well as Saudi Arabia-based Ashleigh Plumptre, make up a strong attacking contingent. Veteran defender Osinachi Ohale and US-based Michelle Alozie bolster the backline, while Benfica’s Christy Ucheibe adds midfield dynamism.

Jennifer Echegini, fresh off an impressive two-goal, one-assist performance for PSG against Dijon, has also earned a spot. New Everton signing Toni Payne and Galatasaray centre-back Tosin Demehin are among the other notable inclusions.

However, the absence of Ajibade, a standout in recent friendlies, and Oshoala, who has not played for Nigeria since Tokyo 2020, leaves gaps in leadership and firepower.

France, meanwhile, has named a formidable 30-player squad featuring stars from top European clubs like Juventus, PSG, and Real Madrid, emphasizing the challenge that lies ahead for Nigeria.

Can the Super Falcons defy history and secure their first win against France? All eyes will be on Angers as Nigeria’s 11-time African champions look to make a statement.
