In the wake of growing criticism surrounding the Black Stars’ recent performances, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, a FIFA U-20 World Cup winner, has stepped forward to voice his support for head coach Otto Addo. After a promising start that included qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Addo now finds himself under immense pressure following a string of disappointing results, including a recent 2-0 loss to Sudan that has left the team winless in four matches.
Agyemang-Badu highlights the challenges of building a cohesive national team compared to a club team. “Our players perform exceptionally well with their clubs, but when they come here, things become difficult,” he remarked in an interview with Sportsblog247.com. He emphasizes the importance of providing Addo with the necessary support from both the fans and the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The former Asante Kotoko and Hellas Verona midfielder argues that the frequent coaching changes—five different coaches in six years—indicate that the issues plaguing the team may not solely stem from coaching. “If we give him more time to settle in and understand the environment fully, I believe he can make a real difference for us,” Agyemang-Badu said, urging Ghanaians to stand behind Addo during this challenging period.
As the Black Stars prepare for crucial matches in November against Angola and Niger Republic, Agyemang-Badu calls for unity among fans and stakeholders. “We need to support the Black Stars and the GFA. He still has my full support, and we need to give him a chance to show what he can do for us,” he concluded.
With Ghana currently sitting third in Group F and in desperate need of points, the upcoming matches will be vital in their bid to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
