Former Ghanaian striker Yahaya Mohammed has publicly criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA), blaming it for the Black Stars’ recent underwhelming performances in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Currently third in their group with only two points from four games, the Black Stars are at risk of missing out on the AFCON tournament for the first time in two decades.
In a recent interview, Mohammed expressed his frustration with the GFA’s selection strategy, highlighting the inclusion of players who he believes lack a deep understanding of Ghana’s football identity. He questioned why some players perform well at their clubs abroad but fail to deliver the same intensity when representing the Black Stars. Mohammed argued that players selected from overseas appear to approach the national team with less commitment, emphasizing that Ghana’s football culture does not tolerate draws or defeats.
As Ghana prepares for crucial qualifying matches against Angola on November 15 and Niger Republic on November 18, the Black Stars face an uphill battle to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
