Nigerian striker Gift Orban is reportedly on the radar of German Bundesliga powerhouses RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund, as his time at Olympique Lyon seems to be nearing an end.
Orban joined Lyon from Belgian club Gent in January for €14 million, arriving as a potential savior for a relegation-threatened team. However, his time at the French club has been anything but smooth. The 22-year-old made an immediate impact in his early games this season, including a crucial brace in a dramatic 4-3 victory over Strasbourg.
Despite this bright start, inconsistent performances saw Orban lose his starting spot. Since late September, he has played just 73 minutes across two matches, featuring in only two of Lyon’s last 13 games. The lack of opportunities, coupled with Lyon’s financial struggles, has put him on the potential transfer list.
Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, both renowned for developing young talents, are reportedly keen on the Nigerian forward. Lyon has set a €25 million price tag, a feasible sum for the Bundesliga clubs, though it remains unclear whether a deal will materialize in January or next summer.
Orban’s explosive pace and clinical finishing could make him a valuable asset for either German side. For the young striker, a move could be the fresh start he needs to reignite his promising career.
