David Atanga Shines in Wolfsberger’s Stunning Comeback Win

Ghanaian forward David Atanga played a pivotal role in Wolfsberger AC’s sensational 4-3 comeback victory over Grazer AK in the Austrian Bundesliga on Saturday.

The match, held at the Merkur-Arena, seemed destined for a comfortable win for the home side, Grazer AK, who stormed to a 3-0 lead before halftime. Daniel Maderner opened the scoring in the 8th minute and then assisted Tio Cipot three minutes later to double the advantage. Marco Gantschnig added the third before the break, leaving Wolfsberger with an uphill battle.

Wolfsberger’s fortunes changed in the second half with impactful substitutions. Ghanaian forward David Atanga was introduced in the 64th minute, replacing Dejan Zukic. Atanga stepped up to convert a penalty in the 80th minute, pulling one back for the visitors.

Momentum shifted as Austrian forward Angelo Gattermayer found the net three minutes later to narrow the gap further. Wolfsberger’s relentless pressure led to an own goal by Michael Lang, leveling the score two minutes into added time.

The dramatic turnaround was completed when Gattermayer struck again deep into stoppage time, following a clever assist from defender Nicolas Wimmer. The 4-3 triumph left fans in awe of Wolfsberger’s resilience.

Notably, former WAFA SC player Emmanuel Agyeman also contributed to the comeback after being introduced at the start of the second half for Thierno Ballo.

Atanga’s performance brings his tally to three goals and one assist in 11 appearances across all competitions this season, solidifying his importance to Wolfsberger AC.
