Nigeria’s head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has set his sights on neutralizing Ghana’s strengths ahead of their highly anticipated 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) playoff clashes.
The two-legged encounter begins on Sunday, December 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the decisive return leg scheduled for Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Ogunmodede, speaking to CAFOnline, highlighted his team’s thorough preparation, despite challenges in analyzing Ghana’s domestic league players. The coach is confident in the Super Eagles’ ability to adapt and execute their game plan effectively.
“We’ve been meticulously studying Ghana’s gameplay, focusing on their areas of strength,” Ogunmodede explained. “Although gathering detailed information on individual players has been difficult, we’re developing strategies to exploit potential weaknesses while leveraging our own strengths.”
Flexibility will be key to Nigeria’s approach, according to the coach. He stressed the importance of dynamic tactics to counter the Black Galaxies’ style of play, ensuring his team can adjust to any situation during the match.
The fixture carries added significance, as Ghana defeated Nigeria on penalties in the previous CHAN qualifiers, only to fall in the quarterfinals of the main tournament. Ogunmodede and his squad are determined to overturn that narrative and secure Nigeria’s place in the 2024 CHAN, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
