Former Asante Kotoko coach, Isaac Opeele Boateng, has joined the growing criticism of Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa, calling for her resignation over what he describes as mismanagement of the 2024 general elections.
Coach Opeele accused Jean Mensa and the Electoral Commission (EC) of failing to establish a secure and transparent electoral process, which he believes has eroded public trust. According to him, the confusion surrounding results in several constituencies highlights a lack of effective leadership.
“Jean Mensa has caused all this mess. A better system and security would have averted this tension and unnecessary drama. She must resign!” Opeele stated.
His remarks come after the EC re-collated and announced new results for seven constituencies, including Okaikwei Central, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Tema Central, and Obuasi East, on Saturday, December 21, 2024. The revised results declared candidates from the NPP as winners, overturning earlier announcements.
The opposition NDC has rejected the re-collated results, citing a court injunction it had filed against the Electoral Commission prior to the announcement. The controversy has heightened tensions, with both parties trading accusations of foul play.
As public debate continues, Coach Opeele’s call for Jean Mensa’s resignation adds to mounting pressure on the EC to address the concerns and restore confidence in Ghana’s electoral process.
