The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council remains resolute in its commitment to revamping the nation’s football landscape despite the Black Stars’ shock failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
This development has stirred nationwide outrage, with fans and pundits calling for sweeping changes within the GFA, including demands for the resignation of top officials. Ghana, a nation with a storied football history, finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches—marking their worst AFCON qualifying campaign in two decades.
Speaking to Joy Sports, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum dismissed rumors of resignations within the Executive Council. Instead, he emphasized their determination to rebuild and enhance Ghanaian football.
“None of the Executive Council members have whispered to me any plans of resignation after Black Stars’ failure,” Asante Twum revealed. “They are highly focused on improving Ghana football.”
Asante Twum’s comments come amidst growing criticism of the Black Stars’ dismal run, which included three draws and three losses. For many, the absence of Ghana at AFCON 2025 symbolizes a low point in the country’s footballing journey.
Despite the disappointment, the GFA insists it is steadfast in addressing the structural and strategic issues hindering the sport. Whether their efforts will restore the trust of a disillusioned fan base remains to be seen.
