Ghana’s hopes for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations came crashing down after a dismal qualifying campaign, leaving fans and analysts pointing fingers at coaching decisions. The Black Stars managed just three points from six matches, a performance many attribute to missteps by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in selecting the technical team.
Former Ghana international Augustine Ahinful has been vocal about the issue, criticizing the leadership of head coach Otto Addo and his staff. “If the GFA had hired the best of coaches and put proper structures in place, we might not be in this position,” Ahinful stated in an interview with Joy Sports.
Addo’s tactical approach, often described as overly cautious, has been a focal point of frustration. “He always plays two defensive midfielders, whether at home or away,” Ahinful noted. “While that might work on the road, home games demand a more offensive mindset. His approach needs to adapt to the situation.”
The poor campaign has sparked widespread calls for change, with fans urging the GFA to overhaul the technical bench and bring in experienced leadership to steer the team back on track. The Black Stars’ failure has not only dashed hopes for AFCON 2025 but also left questions about the future of Ghanaian football.
