Black Galaxies head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has revealed his team’s strategic approach ahead of their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) playoff clash against Nigeria. Ghana will host the first leg on Sunday, December 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return leg set for Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Nigeria.
Speaking to CAFOnline, Dramani explained the meticulous preparation involved in readying his team, focusing on a clear playing philosophy and tactical precision.
“We’ve worked on defining clear playing values—being goal-oriented, aggressive, and effective in both attack and defense,” Dramani shared. “We emphasize controlling spaces and maintaining composure under pressure. Training sessions are modelled exactly like matches to replicate real-game intensity.”
The experienced coach, who has previously served as an assistant with the Black Stars and FC Nordsjaelland, noted that the team is also carefully analyzing Nigeria’s playing style to make necessary adjustments while maintaining their core strengths.
“We’re also carefully analyzing Nigeria’s style and integrating tactical adjustments without losing focus on our strengths,” he added.
This encounter will be a renewal of the rivalry between the two West African giants. Two years ago, Ghana edged Nigeria on penalties to qualify for the CHAN tournament, where they eventually reached the quarterfinals.
Kick-off for the first leg is at 15:00 GMT, and the stakes couldn’t be higher as both teams battle for a spot in the CHAN tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in 2024.
