The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has cast doubt on Otto Addo’s ability to guide the Black Stars to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Speaking on Asempa FM, Nunoo Mensah expressed his concerns following Ghana’s disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where the team finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points from six games.
Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract in March this year, has faced mounting criticism for his tactical decisions and inability to secure crucial results. Despite a recent review meeting between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the under-fire coach, no decision has been made about his future.
“I have not been convinced about Otto Addo’s coaching prowess, especially against Niger,” Nunoo Mensah said. “In crucial games, the matches are being won by the coaches, and judging by the games we have played in the AFCON, I don’t think he is competent enough to qualify Ghana for the 2026 World Cup.”
Nunoo Mensah, who was recently honored as the NÉ”yaa MantsÉ› (Development Chief) of the Ga State for his contributions to sports and national development, stressed the need for a tactically astute coach to handle the Black Stars’ upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
Currently second in Group I, Ghana will resume their World Cup qualification campaign in March 2025 with matches against Chad and Madagascar. However, widespread calls for a change in leadership suggest that Otto Addo’s position remains precarious.
