Jayden Addai’s brilliance lit up the pitch despite Jong AZ’s 3-2 loss to MVV Maastricht in a gripping Eerste Divisie encounter at the AFAS Trainingscomplex.
Jong AZ opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Jayen Gerold, who calmly finished after an exquisite through ball from Lequincio Zeefuik. However, MVV’s Camil Mmaee stole the show with a clinical first-half brace. He later sealed his hat trick in the 55th minute, finishing an Ilano Timas assist to give the visitors a commanding 3-1 lead.
Undeterred, Addai delivered a moment of magic in the 83rd minute. The Dutch-born Ghanaian winger unleashed a sensational left-footed strike from outside the box, capping off a lightning-fast counterattack orchestrated by Ro-Zangelo Daal. The goal reignited hopes for Jong AZ, but despite dominating possession (64%) and attempting 19 shots, they couldn’t find the crucial equalizer.
The defeat allows MVV to edge ahead in their head-to-head record against Jong AZ, now holding seven wins to the latter’s five. As Jong AZ looks to rebound, they face a challenging matchup against FC Volendam on December 6.
