Reports suggest that Black Stars assistant coaches John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda are set to be relieved of their duties as part of a major shake-up within Ghana’s senior national team.
The former Ghana internationals joined the technical setup under head coach Otto Addo following his reappointment. However, after the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the technical team has faced intense criticism.
Last week, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) held a marathon meeting to review Otto Addo’s technical report. As part of a restructuring plan, the GFA intends to make changes to the roles of assistant coach and goalkeepers’ trainer, currently occupied by Paintsil and Dauda.
This decision aligns with a recommendation made by Otto Addo, who emphasized the need for enhancements in his backroom staff during his meeting with the GFA Executive Council.
The Black Stars’ poor AFCON qualifying campaign saw them finish at the bottom of Group F with just three points, recording three draws and three losses. This marks the first time in two decades that the four-time African champions have missed the continental tournament.
The team will shift focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, returning to action in March 2025 with matches against Chad and Madagascar.
