In a recent interview with COPE, former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager José Mourinho expressed his admiration for Spanish international Nico Williams, highlighting the winger’s talent over Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal.
The duo played key roles in Spain’s triumphant campaign at the 2024 UEFA European Championship held in Germany. Williams was instrumental, netting the opening goal in the final, as Spain edged England 2-1 to clinch the title.
While the football world continues to rave about the 17-year-old Yamal, Mourinho, now managing Fenerbahçe, made it clear where his preferences lie.
“In the Euros, people were all saying Yamal, Yamal, Yamal… He’s a wonderful boy, but I personally prefer more of Nico Williams. I hope he ends up at Real Madrid,” Mourinho stated.
The 21-year-old Athletic Bilbao star was a summer target for Barcelona but opted to remain with his boyhood club. So far this season, Williams has made 21 appearances, tallying two goals and five assists. Mourinho’s endorsement has sparked speculation about the winger’s future, with Real Madrid now rumored to be a possible destination.
