After eight unforgettable years, Danish-born Ghanaian defender Kevin Mensah is bidding farewell to Brøndby IF, marking the end of an illustrious chapter in both his career and the club’s history.
Mensah, 33, joined Brøndby in January 2017 from Esbjerg fB and quickly became a pillar of the team. Known for his leadership, he served as vice-captain before eventually taking on the full captaincy, a role in which he thrived.
Over the course of 156 appearances in Brøndby’s iconic blue and yellow, Mensah etched his name into the club’s history. He was a key player in their 2018 Danish Cup victory over Silkeborg IF and played a vital role in their historic 2021 Superliga title win—the club’s first league triumph in 16 years.
Despite his successes, recurring injuries have hindered Mensah in recent years. This led to the club’s decision not to extend his contract, which expires on December 31, 2024.
Brøndby released a touching statement honoring their departing captain:
“Kevin has been a true leader and an integral part of our success. We wish him nothing but the best in the next chapter of his career.”
Mensah’s departure marks the end of an era for Brøndby IF, but his contributions to the club will remain unforgettable.
