Kwesi Appiah Vows to Help Black Stars Bounce Back and Secure 2026 World Cup Spot

A Story of Determination and Support

The Black Stars’ journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has found an unexpected ally in Kwesi Appiah, current coach of Sudan and former manager of Ghana’s national team. In the wake of a disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Appiah has pledged his unwavering support to ensure Ghana makes it to the global stage in 2026.

Speaking to Asempa FM, the veteran coach expressed his willingness to lend a hand, emphasizing that the success of the national team is a collective responsibility. “If you look at the current players, they are good. With any form of assistance, I will be there to support and ensure the team qualifies because, at the end of the day, it is about Ghana and not anybody,” he stated.

This gesture comes after Ghana’s heartbreaking AFCON campaign, where the team suffered three defeats and three draws in six matches, finishing last in Group F with just three points. The setback marks the first time in two decades that the Black Stars will not feature in the continental competition, set to take place in Morocco next year.

Despite this, the road to redemption begins with the World Cup qualifiers resuming in March 2025. Ghana currently sits second in Group I with nine points, tied with Comoros, who lead the group. Key upcoming matches against Chad and Madagascar will determine the Black Stars’ fate.

While Appiah continues to guide Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane to success—leading Group B with 10 points in four games—his heart remains with the team he once coached. His experience and dedication could serve as a vital boost for Ghana in their pursuit of World Cup glory.
