Ghanaian defender shines for Fredrikstad in standout 2024 season
Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi has been honored with a place in the Norway Eliteserien Team of the Year after an exceptional 2024 season with Fredrikstad.
The 23-year-old, a product of Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy, played a pivotal role in Fredrikstad’s impressive campaign. The club finished sixth in the league and crowned their season with a Norway Cup triumph, securing a spot in the Europa League qualifiers.
Since joining Fredrikstad in the summer of 2023 from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes, Woledzi has been a rock at the back. This season, he featured in 29 matches, delivering consistently commanding performances. His 54 interceptions ranked him second across the league, underscoring his defensive acumen and positioning him as one of the best center-backs in Norway.
Woledzi’s stellar displays have not gone unnoticed, with interest reportedly brewing from top clubs in Norway and Scandinavia. Despite this, he remains under contract with Fredrikstad until the summer of 2026.
The former Ghana youth international has a rich footballing pedigree, having shared the pitch at Nordsjaelland in Denmark with rising stars like Mohammed Kudus, Mohamed Diomande, and Simon Adingra. His journey continues to showcase the quality of talent groomed by the Right to Dream Academy.
As Fredrikstad prepares for the Europa League qualifiers, Woledzi’s growing reputation as a defensive stalwart could make him a key figure in their quest for continental success.
