Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi has expressed his joy after playing a key role in Fredrikstad FK’s historic triumph in the Norwegian Cup, their first title in 18 years.
The 22-year-old centre-back was instrumental as Fredrikstad FK edged out Molde in a dramatic final at the Ullevaal Stadion. After a goalless draw in regular time, the match was decided through a tense penalty shootout, with Fredrikstad emerging victorious 5-4.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Woledzi shared his elation:
> “I am happy, grateful and honoured to have experienced this with the best team and with the best support. This massive win would have never been possible without the energy and unwavering support of you all, Sorsia and all the supporters.”
Woledzi’s contributions throughout the tournament were significant, making six appearances and solidifying the team’s backline. Across all competitions, the talented defender featured 35 times for Fredrikstad FK this season.
His stellar defensive performances have also been reflected in the Norway Eliteserien, where he ranked second in interceptions (54), helping Fredrikstad FK boast the league’s third-best defence.
Having joined the club in August 2023 on a contract running until 2026, Woledzi continues to grow in stature, with his impressive season marking a new chapter in both his career and Fredrikstad’s resurgence.
