Independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to adopt innovative methods of raising funds to transform Ghana’s football landscape. Speaking on Asempa FM, the leader of the New Force party highlighted the need for the GFA to take lessons from global football giants like FIFA, who generate substantial revenue through broadcasting deals.
Bediako expressed frustration with the GFA’s reliance on government budgets and minimal external funding, emphasizing the potential of media partnerships in boosting the association’s financial muscle.
“I don’t think the GFA is learning from the strategies of other football associations like FIFA,” he said. “FIFA makes most of its money from broadcasting, which strengthens their operations globally. Ghana’s GFA, on the other hand, waits for a budget and a match, with no effort to create sustainable revenue streams. This approach is why they struggle.”
His comments come amid widespread disappointment over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations—a first in 21 years—prompting calls for introspection and reform in Ghanaian football governance.
Bediako’s remarks urge the GFA to take bold steps in fostering relationships with global media and adopting forward-thinking strategies to revitalize football in Ghana.
