Nigeria’s Maduka Okoye Undergoes Wrist Surgery Ahead of 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has successfully undergone surgery to treat a wrist injury sustained during Udinese Calcio’s Serie A match against Genoa CFC last Sunday. The injury, which affected the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist, required immediate attention, and the procedure was performed by Dr. Loris Pegoli at Milan’s “La Madonnina” clinic.

In a statement, Udinese confirmed that the surgery was a success, and Okoye will begin his rehabilitation process in the coming weeks. The 25-year-old goalkeeper had recently featured for Nigeria in their 2-1 loss to Rwanda on November 18, in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda set for March 2025, it remains uncertain if Okoye will be fit in time to play for the Super Eagles.
