Aziz Haruna Futa, the National Nasara Coordinator for the National Patriotic Party (NPP), has disclosed that the Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has recommended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) part ways with Otto Addo after the Black Stars’ disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Addo, who was appointed as head coach earlier this year following Chris Hughton’s departure, has faced heavy criticism for the team’s poor performance in the qualifiers. Ghana finished at the bottom of Group F, accumulating just three points from six games, with three draws and three losses.
Despite a thorough meeting last week to review Addo’s technical reports, the GFA has yet to make a final decision on his future. However, Futa revealed that the government, which covers Addo’s salary, cannot directly fire him. “The government pays Otto Addo’s wages, but the GFA holds the authority to dismiss him,” Futa explained. “The Minister has already advised the GFA to take action.”
Otto Addo, a former Ghana international and ex-assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund, signed a three-year contract with the GFA earlier this year, with an option for a two-year extension.
