Victor Osimhen, on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, has been lighting up the Turkish Super Lig this season. With nine goals and four assists in just 12 games, the Super Eagles striker has proven to be a pivotal figure for Okan Buruk’s unbeaten side. However, football is a game of fine margins, and former Galatasaray star Ümit Davala believes there’s room for improvement in Osimhen’s already impressive arsenal.
In Galatasaray’s recent 2-2 draw against Eyüpspor, Osimhen’s performance came under scrutiny. Despite six shots on goal, only one was on target—an unusual statistic for a forward of his caliber. Davala, a three-time Turkish Super Lig winner and Bundesliga champion during his time at Werder Bremen, pinpointed Osimhen’s approach during matches as an area to refine.
“Osimhen carries immense responsibility, and he knows it. Everyone believes, ‘If Osimhen is there, there’s no problem,’ but that also adds pressure,” Davala said. Reflecting on the Eyüpspor game, he added, “If he had stayed a little calmer, I think he could have made better use of those chances. Galatasaray sometimes makes games harder for themselves, and this was another example.”
Davala’s advice comes at a crucial time for Galatasaray, who remain at the summit of the Super Lig table despite a slight dip in form. The team has won just one of their last three games, but their domestic and European campaigns still look promising.
As Osimhen continues to lead Galatasaray’s attack in Mauro Icardi’s absence due to injury, the 24-year-old striker will aim to sharpen his focus and maintain his exceptional form to push the club toward greater heights.
