Leicester City’s Premier League campaign has taken a significant hit following the loss of Ghanaian sensation Fatawu Issahaku to a season-ending ACL injury.
The 19-year-old, who was instrumental in Leicester’s triumphant Championship season with 13 assists and six goals, had carried his stellar form into the Premier League. However, his progress was abruptly halted in November when he suffered the injury while representing Ghana on international duty.
Reflecting on the setback after Leicester’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, manager Ruud van Nistelrooy did not hold back on the impact of the young forward’s absence.
“Fatawu’s injury has been a massive blow to our plans. Losing such a key player at the start of my tenure was tough to accept. You need your best players fit in this league, and unfortunately, we’ve not had that luck,” said the Dutchman.
The Foxes have been struggling in Issahaku’s absence, currently sitting 18th in the table, one point away from safety after a three-game losing streak. With a daunting clash against Manchester City looming, their fight for survival grows ever more precarious.
