Alex Iwobi’s Standout Performance Earns Him a Spot in Troy Deeney’s BBC Team of the Week

In a thrilling midweek encounter, Fulham’s Alex Iwobi showcased his skills in a 3-2 loss to West Ham United, earning a well-deserved place in Troy Deeney’s BBC Team of the Week. Iwobi, who impressed with two crucial assists, demonstrated his vision and playmaking ability, sending in perfect crosses that reduced Fulham’s deficit, with Raul Jimenez and Harry Wilson benefiting from his precise delivery. Interestingly, Iwobi later revealed that scoring wasn’t his intention on those crosses, but his contribution was undeniable.

Troy Deeney, a former Watford striker turned pundit for BBC, praised Iwobi’s versatile performance. He called the Nigerian midfielder one of the most underrated players in the Premier League, stating that despite often being overlooked, he is the kind of player every team would cherish. Deeney emphasized that Iwobi has been one of Fulham’s best performers this season, filling various roles and consistently delivering high-quality performances.

The BBC Team of the Week saw Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels in goal after a series of vital saves against Liverpool, while Chelsea’s Reece James, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, and Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa rounded out the defense. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson also made the lineup after providing two assists against West Ham.

The midfield trio featured West Ham’s Carlos Soler, Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, and Alex Iwobi. In attack, Alexander Isak’s brace for Newcastle, Phil Foden’s double for Manchester City, and Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, who scored a sensational hat-trick against Southampton, completed the squad.

Diallo, who was relatively unnoticed for the first 70 minutes against Southampton, stunned everyone with a rapid-fire hat-trick in just 12 minutes, turning Manchester United’s fortunes around. Deeney praised the Ivorian’s performance, noting that Diallo’s potential was clear, though he still had room for improvement.

In a season filled with standout performances, Alex Iwobi’s inclusion in the Team of the Week serves as a reminder of his skill and consistency, often going unnoticed despite his pivotal contributions to Fulham’s campaign.
