Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo described Bournemouth’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park as a “crazy performance,” highlighting the team’s tactical precision and resilience during their remarkable Premier League run.
Saturday’s clash saw Justin Kluivert steal the spotlight with a brilliant hat-trick, while Milos Kerkez added to the scoreline. Semenyo, who assisted one of Kluivert’s goals, provided insight into Bournemouth’s game plan, which successfully dismantled Newcastle’s defence.
“It was a crazy performance from us,” Semenyo told Premier League Productions. “We knew we needed to get the press right, and if we did, we’d create opportunities. As you saw, we executed perfectly and secured three massive points.”
The forward broke down Bournemouth’s tactical approach: “We noticed moments where they kept it at the back, and we aimed to exploit that. Our trigger was when the goalkeeper passed to the centre-back, and from there, we pressed aggressively. It worked to perfection.”
Semenyo also lauded Justin Kluivert’s contribution, calling his hat-trick “special” and describing the Dutch forward as a “top player” who deserved every bit of the spotlight.
The win extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten streak to 11 league games, a feat made more remarkable by the team’s injury struggles. Semenyo attributed their consistency to a resilient mindset and collective belief.
“It’s all about mindset. We are mentally tough and take every challenge in stride, even with injuries. Our focus is one game at a time, and we don’t let pressure get to us,” he added.
Semenyo has been a pivotal figure in Bournemouth’s campaign, recording six goals and three assists in 21 appearances. His contributions, along with the team’s cohesive play, have propelled the Cherries to sixth in the Premier League standings, keeping their European football ambitions firmly in sight.
