Fleetwood Town continued their fine form with an impressive 2-0 win over Salford City in Round 27 of League Two at The Peninsula Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors got off to a flying start, with Ronan Coughlan finding the back of the net in just the second minute. The forward capitalized on a well-executed set piece by Finley Potter, giving Fleetwood an early advantage. Moments later, Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu doubled the lead with a towering header in the 11th minute. Rising above the Salford defense, the English-Ghanaian defender connected perfectly with Phoenix Patterson’s corner, sending the ball into the top-right corner. The goal marked Sarpong-Wiredu’s second of the season in his 17th league outing.
Despite dominating possession with 68%, Salford City struggled to break through Fleetwood’s disciplined defense. Although the hosts managed 11 shots, none were truly threatening. Fleetwood, on the other hand, remained sharp on the counter and resolute at the back.
Salford’s frustrations culminated in the 85th minute when Kylian Kouassi was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving his side to finish the game with ten men.
Fleetwood’s victory not only extends their unbeaten streak against Salford but also boosts their confidence ahead of their upcoming clash with MK Dons on January 21st.
