Arsenal’s young Nigerian forward, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, has been named in the squad for their upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Girona at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on Wednesday night. The Hale End Academy graduate has made a strong impression this season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in just ten appearances for the club’s Premier League 2 side.
While Butler-Oyedeji’s inclusion in the travelling squad is a testament to his progress, breaking into the starting XI is likely to be challenging. With seasoned players such as Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, and Ethan Nwaneri all ahead of him in the forward hierarchy, the 22-year-old is expected to fight for a spot on the bench rather than a starting role.
Despite being in contention for matchday selection, Butler-Oyedeji’s chances of making his full first-team debut remain slim as Arsenal look to secure their place in the Champions League knockout stage. Currently third in their group with 16 points, the Gunners still control their destiny as they head into the final match of the group phase.
Having already made five appearances in the Champions League this season, including a substitute debut against Dinamo Zagreb on January 22, Butler-Oyedeji is eager to make a further impact as he continues his development at the club.
