In a move set to shake up African club football, CAF has revised its player registration rules for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
For years, clubs competing in these elite tournaments faced restrictions when it came to signing players mid-season—especially those who had already featured in the competition. Now, CAF has aligned its rules with UEFA’s, allowing clubs to recruit such players and field them in continental matches within the same season.
This landmark decision is expected to boost competition, attract more fans, and entice broadcasters and sponsors. More importantly, it gives African clubs a better shot at strengthening their squads ahead of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States.
Additionally, CAF has extended the registration deadline to February 28, 2025, granting teams extra time to reinforce their rosters for the crucial knockout stages.
With these changes, the second half of the season promises intense battles as teams capitalize on fresh reinforcements in their quest for continental glory.
