Ghana-Born Daniel Sosah Relishes Historic Win Over Black Stars with Niger

Daniel Sosah, a Ghana-born forward now representing Niger, has shared his joy after helping his adopted nation secure a historic 2-1 victory over the Black Stars in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Born in Ghana to a Beninese father and a Ghanaian mother, Sosah began his football journey in Niger, where he later naturalized. The Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih striker played a pivotal role in Niger’s stunning win at the Accra Sports Stadium in November 2024, a result that ended Ghana’s 16-year unbeaten record on home soil.

Reflecting on the moment, Sosah revealed his excitement about the milestone victory. “I was happy when we beat Ghana,” he told Asempa FM. “Since I started playing for Niger, it has always been my dream to face Ghana.”

The 26-year-old has been a key figure for Niger in recent years, notably scoring a brace against Sudan in their penultimate AFCON qualifier. His contributions have cemented his status as one of the team’s standout performers.

Despite the historic triumph over Ghana, both nations failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, as Angola and Sudan secured the group’s final spots. However, the victory remains a significant moment for Niger and a personal highlight for Sosah.
