In a bold move signaling their commitment to developing international talent, Swedish giants Hammarby IF have reached an agreement to sign 17-year-old Ghanaian winger Bernard Acheampong from AsanSka FC, a lower-tier club in Ghana.
The deal, set to be finalized after Acheampong turns 18 on January 31, 2025, marks another milestone for Hammarby, who are intent on building a dynamic and youthful squad for the 2025 Swedish Championship.
Acheampong first caught the eye of Hammarby’s sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg and head coach Kim Hellberg during a scouting trip to Ghana in November. Speaking on the acquisition, Hjelmberg expressed his excitement, saying, “Bernard is a rare talent. His pace, versatility, and technical skills make him a player with incredible potential.”
The teenager is expected to join Hammarby’s A-team training camp in Spain soon after his arrival, where he will be given a chance to acclimatize to his new environment and showcase his abilities.
Born on January 31, 2007, Acheampong has already demonstrated exceptional promise in Ghana’s domestic leagues, earning him a reputation as one of the brightest young talents in the country. His signing adds to Hammarby’s growing list of youthful acquisitions, including Paulos Abraham, Elohim Kaboré, Jonathan Karlsson, and Felix Jakobsson, as the club continues to assemble a formidable squad for the future.
This transfer not only underscores Hammarby’s ambitions on the field but also highlights their strategy of blending youthful energy with long-term planning. With Acheampong on board, the Swedish side is poised to take another step toward cementing their place among Sweden’s elite clubs.
