Iheanacho’s French Lifeline: Marseille in Talks for Sevilla Striker

Kelechi Iheanacho’s time at Sevilla looks to be coming to an early end, but a fresh opportunity in France might just reignite his career. The Nigerian forward, who joined the Spanish club after leaving Leicester City, has struggled to find his form in La Liga. Now, with Sevilla securing the services of fellow Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Montpellier, Iheanacho’s chances of regular football have dwindled further.

Amid this uncertainty, French giants Olympique de Marseille have emerged as a potential destination. The nine-time Ligue 1 champions, once home to Nigerian left-back Taiye Taiwo, are reportedly in talks with Sevilla over a loan deal for the Super Eagles striker. Sevilla’s president, Víctor Orta, confirmed that multiple clubs have shown interest, leaving the decision in Iheanacho’s hands.

“There is one week left, and I think there are three offers. It’s a matter of the player choosing his best option for the next six months,” Orta stated. “We all expected a higher performance from him. That has nothing to do with his quality, and there is interest from other teams. I believe he wants to play more, and we’ll see what happens until Monday.”

With Marseille currently second in Ligue 1, they are in need of a reliable goal scorer to boost their European ambitions. If Iheanacho makes the switch, he will have another chance to prove himself—though adapting to a new league and environment remains a challenge, just as it was in Spain.

As the transfer deadline looms, all eyes are on Iheanacho. Will he take this lifeline in France, or will another surprise destination emerge?
