Kelechi Iheanacho’s stint at Sevilla has hit a challenging phase, with the Super Eagles striker sidelined for the past two weeks due to an injury. Sevilla coach García Pimienta disclosed the situation, putting to rest swirling rumors that the club was looking to offload the Nigerian international.
The 28-year-old forward, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer last summer, was tipped to bolster the team’s attacking options. However, his performances in La Liga have left much to be desired. With nine appearances—mostly from the bench—Iheanacho has yet to score in the league. His three goals in the Copa del Rey, scored against lower-tier opponents, have done little to silence critics.
The striker’s absence from training fueled speculation of an imminent departure, with reports linking him to Premier League sides Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, Pimienta clarified Iheanacho’s situation ahead of their clash against Valencia.
“Kelechi has some discomfort, the same as last week. He should be back with the group soon,” the coach explained during a press briefing.
Despite the injury update, transfer rumors persist. With three weeks remaining in the January transfer window, a move back to the Premier League remains a possibility as Iheanacho seeks to revive his career.
