Bilbao, Spain – Inaki Williams has expressed his determination to lead Athletic Bilbao to back-to-back Copa del Rey titles after a dramatic victory over Logrones in the Round of 32.
The defending champions overcame the third-tier side 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout after a goalless 120 minutes. Despite Bilbao creating numerous chances during regulation and extra time, including close efforts from Alvaro Djalo, Gorka Guruzeta, and a brilliant save from Logrones goalkeeper Kike Royo to deny Nico Williams, the game went down to penalties.
The shootout was not without drama as Nico Williams missed his spot-kick, but Unai Gomez stepped up to convert the decisive penalty, securing Bilbao’s place in the last 16.
Reflecting on the hard-fought win, Inaki Williams praised his team’s resilience. “To win any competition, you have to overcome these kinds of difficult matches. Objective achieved. On to the next one!” he shared on social media.
Williams has been instrumental for Bilbao this season, with nine goals in 18 La Liga matches and four goals in six Europa League games. As they prepare for a tough clash against Barcelona in the league, the Ghanaian forward remains a central figure in their pursuit of silverware.
