Fulham narrowly lost 1-0 to Manchester United in a tense Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage on Sunday night. Nigerian internationals Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey featured for the full 90 minutes for Fulham, but their efforts weren’t enough to prevent defeat.
Despite not being at their best, Manchester United secured all three points courtesy of a deflected strike from Lisandro Martínez in the 78th minute.
Fulham dominated the first half, with Alex Iwobi coming close to giving the hosts the lead in the 19th minute. The Manchester United defense afforded him too much space as he cut in from the left and unleashed a shot that André Onana initially spilled before recovering.
Dion Dublin, legendary Aston Villa striker and pundit for Premier League Productions, praised Iwobi’s effort during halftime analysis. “Iwobi is unlucky here. He’s trying to find the far post. It’s not a bad finish, and the goalkeeper did well to hold onto it,” Dublin commented.
Fulham’s persistent pressure in the dying minutes nearly yielded an equalizer, but a crucial goal-line clearance by Toby Collyer preserved Manchester United’s lead.
With this win, Manchester United climb to 12th in the Premier League standings with 29 points, while Fulham sit in 10th place, having lost only their second game in 11 outings.
