Joshua Quarshie: Greuther Fürth’s New Defensive Hope

As Greuther Fürth battles to stay afloat in Bundesliga 2, head coach Jan Siewert believes they have found a key defensive reinforcement in Joshua Quarshie. The 20-year-old German-born Ghanaian center-back arrived on loan from Hoffenheim, determined to prove his worth after a challenging spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Quarshie, a regular for Germany’s U20 national team, saw limited game time at Düsseldorf, making just 16 appearances in a year-long loan. However, his talent remains undisputed, and Siewert is confident he will make an immediate impact.

“With Joshua, we’ve added another player with great dynamism and speed to our defensive unit,” Siewert said. “It’s crucial to have different player profiles in the squad, and I’m convinced he will complement the team well. We also wanted someone familiar with the league who wouldn’t need much time to adjust.”

Fürth, sitting just three points above the relegation zone, desperately needs defensive stability. With Quarshie’s arrival, they hope to solidify their backline and secure safety in the second half of the season. Now, all eyes are on the young defender as he embarks on a crucial mission to help his new club survive the drop.
