Former Databank CEO Kojo Addae-Mensah has called for immediate reforms to strengthen the Black Stars’ technical team and management, emphasizing their importance in securing Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Addae-Mensah, who previously played a role in appointing Black Stars coach Otto Addo, attributed Ghana’s recent struggles—particularly in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers—to weaknesses in both technical and managerial areas.
“Both the management and technical side need strengthening. If not, we risk missing out on the World Cup,” he stated. “We must reflect on where we got it wrong during the AFCON qualifiers and make the necessary corrections to ensure qualification for the World Cup.”
His remarks echo a growing consensus among stakeholders in Ghanaian football, who have pointed to disunity and inefficiencies within the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the national team as key factors behind the team’s underperformance.
Addae-Mensah’s call for action comes as the Black Stars gear up for the next phase of their World Cup qualification campaign in March. Reports suggest the GFA plans to reconstitute the current technical team, which is still led by Otto Addo.
The former CEO’s appeal highlights the urgent need for effective leadership and a technically sound coaching setup to revitalize the Black Stars and restore their competitive edge on the global stage.
With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers fast approaching, the GFA faces mounting pressure to address these challenges and lay the foundation for success in Ghana’s bid for another World Cup appearance.
