Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has won Atalanta’s coveted Goal of the Month award for December 2024, thanks to a jaw-dropping finish against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
The Nigerian international’s brilliant strike, which occurred during Atalanta’s thrilling 3-2 loss to the Spanish giants on December 10, stood head and shoulders above the competition. Voted the best by Atalanta fans across social media, Lookman’s goal earned 46% of the vote.
In a moment that displayed his immense skill and poise, Lookman latched onto a pinpoint cross-field pass from Lazar Samardžić, controlling the ball deftly as he entered space. As he faced Real Madrid defender Lucas Vázquez, Lookman made a swift move to slip past him, before firing a perfectly placed right-footed strike that nutmegged the defender and curled past Thibaut Courtois into the near post.
The goal was a testament to Lookman’s technical brilliance, making it a fitting winner in a competition where even the other contenders were of high quality. Charles De Ketelaere’s decisive goal against Empoli in Serie A took second place with 38% of the votes, while Tommaso Del Lungo’s backheel goal for the U23 team and Andrea Bonanomi’s solo effort in the Primavera match against Juventus rounded out the top four.
For Lookman, this award marks his first Goal of the Month win for the season, solidifying his reputation as one of Atalanta’s most exciting and consistent players.
