Ajibade Shines in Atletico’s Draw Against Levante Badalona
Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade ended her eight-game goal drought with a well-taken strike in Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Levante Badalona in the Spanish Liga F clash on Saturday.
Ajibade, who had not scored since September’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Madrid CFF, delivered for Atletico in the 16th minute. Sprinting onto Fiamma Iannuzzi’s precise pass during a swift counterattack, the Nigerian ace slotted a composed finish past the goalkeeper to give her side the lead.
Despite dominating possession, Atletico failed to convert further opportunities and paid the price in the 58th minute when Irina Uribe leveled for Badalona. Ajibade, who played the full 90 minutes, could not add to her tally, and the match ended in a hard-fought stalemate at the Estadi Municipal de Badalona.
Lookman’s Stunning Strike Not Enough as Napoli Defeat Atalanta
Elsewhere in Italy, Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman scored a sensational goal, but his effort wasn’t enough to prevent Atalanta from falling 3-2 to Napoli in a thrilling Serie A encounter.
Atalanta took an early lead through Mateo Retegui in the 16th minute, only for Napoli to respond with goals from Matteo Politano and Scott McTominay before halftime.
Lookman restored parity in the 55th minute with a moment of brilliance. Picking up the ball on the edge of the box, he weaved past three Napoli defenders before unleashing a ferocious strike into the top corner. However, Atalanta’s defensive frailties were exposed again when Romelu Lukaku scored the winner for Napoli in the 78th minute.
Despite Lookman’s stellar effort, Atalanta were unable to find another equalizer as Napoli shut down any space for a late comeback.
