MLS Expansion Team Adds Experience with Key Signing from New England Revolution
San Diego FC has bolstered its roster ahead of their inaugural Major League Soccer season by signing Ghanaian winger Emmanuel Boateng from New England Revolution. The deal, worth $200,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), ensures the 30-year-old will remain with the club through the 2025 MLS season on a guaranteed contract.
Boateng, a graduate of Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy, brings a wealth of experience to San Diego FC. With 219 MLS appearances (106 starts), 19 goals, and 27 assists over his nine-year career, he is a proven asset in the league.
His MLS journey includes stints with LA Galaxy, D.C. United, Columbus Crew, and New England Revolution. Since joining the Revolution as a free agent in 2021, Boateng has featured in 89 matches (36 starts), tallying eight goals and 12 assists.
Notably, Boateng played a crucial role in New England’s 2021 Supporters’ Shield-winning campaign, contributing two goals and four assists. He was also a key part of Columbus Crew’s 2020 MLS Cup-winning side.
Boateng’s professional career began with LA Galaxy following a standout collegiate run at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His signing adds significant depth and versatility to San Diego FC’s roster as the club looks to make a strong start in MLS.
